Vacancy at the Swedish Embassy in Amman: Social Secretary

The Swedish Embassy in Amman seeks applications from highly motivated and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of a Social Secretary.

The Embassy of Sweden in Amman is responsible for representing Swedish interests in Jordan and promoting relations between the Kingdom of Sweden and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Embassy also has a mandate for regional development cooperation and serves as a regional hub for migration. The overall tasks of the Embassy include supporting business and trade, development cooperation as well as consular and migration services. It has approximately 45 employees.

The Social Secretary is locally employed by the Embassy. Her/his primary responsibilities are to assist the Ambassador in administrative and promotion tasks, and to plan, implement and execute meetings and events. The successful candidate will work closely with the Ambassador, the Administrative section, the Section for Political, Promotion and Communication affairs as well as the Swedish Residence team.

The deadline to apply is 11 August, 2026 and the starting date is as soon as possible. The position offers full-time employment contingent upon satisfactorily completing the probationary period of 3 months.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Administrative support to the Ambassador, including managing schedules, appointments and official engagements.
  • Organise, administer and follow up meetings and events for the Embassy, including drafting invitation lists, sending invitation cards and taking responses, following up on non-responders and creating seating plans.
  • Prepare official correspondence, including letters and Notes Verbales.
  • Manage logistics of meetings and events by coordinating with the event holder, residence staff, supporting team members and external service providers, as well as obtaining cost estimates for functions and events.
  • Attend events to welcome guests, support protocol arrangements and assist with requests as needed.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the Ambassador's official transport.
  • Manage representation and entertainment claims, as well as incoming and outgoing gift records.
  • Coordinate VIP visits and high-level delegations, including preparing programmes, arranging logistics, transportation, accommodation, and meeting schedules.
  • Coordinate and arrange appointments and meetings for the Deputy Head of Mission and support the Political, Promotion and Communication Section when needed.
  • Keep relevant contact lists and diplomatic lists updated, coordinating with all sections at the Embassy.
  • Perform  other duties as and when required.

Main Qualifications:

Education: University degree in business administration, communication, economics, languages, social sciences or related fields.

Experience: A minimum of five years working experience in a similar position or in a related area at an Embassy or in an international environment is preferred.

 Skills required:     

  • Excellent demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to ensure the delivery and completion of tasks with attention to detail and high standards, also under periods of high workload.
  • Strong communication ability, both written and oral, as well as ability to develop a personal network.
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Solid planning skills.
  • Outgoing, service-minded, motivated and willing to learn new things.
  • Ability to adapt to different cultural environments and to changing responsibilities.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs like Word and Excel.
  • Language: Excellent command of English and Arabic, both orally and in writing. Nordic language skills is an asset.

The successful candidate will also:

Share basic values of Swedish policies, such as respect for human rights, non-discrimination on any ground, democracy, equality and transparency as well as enjoy the idea of representing Sweden and Swedish interests.

Demonstrate a high level of integrity and professional standards, showing discretion at all times.

Applicants who are not Jordanian citizens must hold a valid Jordanian work-permit or have permanent residency status in Jordan.

The position offers full-time employment with a probationary period of 3 months.

Salary will be determined based on education, experience and other relevant qualifications. Other terms and conditions follow the Embassy's employment conditions for locally employed staff.

Selected candidates will be asked to present at least two references and provide supporting documents such as certificates and copies of degrees, followed by interviews.  Written tests will also be part of the selection process. The successful candidate will be required to pass security certifications before an offer can be made and accepted, including arranging for a certificate of non-criminal record and a medical certificate.
